A leader can empower and kindle hope on a global scale. He influences and transforms an individual and by virtue of that, the family, society and the world at large, says Dr Sharda Batra


Human beings are singular in their capacity to interact with others using words, actions and decisions. At a more subtle level, we interact as if by emanating waves of energy of varying frequencies at the physical, mental and spiritual levels. In this manner, each of us influences and is influenced. This interplay of energies of different individuals, organizations and nations mould and direct personal and collective destinies. Your power is the influence you can wield on a situation/person/people. A leader is one who has the power to influence a group towards achievement of certain goals by consciously/unconsciously aligning their thoughts and motivating their actions in the desired direction. A leader can thus guide an organization to profit/bankruptcy, a nation to war/peace, an entire young generation to their ideals or degeneration. A leader can empower the individual and kindle hope on a global scale. A leader influences and transforms the individual and by virtue of that, the family, society and the world at large. The leader may do this by occupying a position of material/spiritual power like the principal of a school, president of a nation or a sage/healer who channelizes cosmic energy and heals thought patterns. Leadership has witnessed a paradigm shift in the last decade. Years back, the stress was on hard work and intellect. The enterprising leader in the past had innovative ideas and technological qualifications to back this. Gradually, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of certain vitality, empathy, and passion for life and a sensitivity about what makes another human being tick. People skills and transpersonal intelligence have gained in precedence. The new-age leader is not a manager who barks directives and induces corrective actions as and when convenient, but a humane person who speaks, convinces, coaxes and coaches each member of his team to a blossoming of their potential, all the while allowing the process to catalyze his/her growth as well.
